a buff tabby who, although she was the smallest Fig, we called “the purrleader” of the litter. Gretel was usually only a step behind Lyell in racing to greet us in the morning. She loved to be held and would start purring the instant we picked her up.

Like her true sister Tenaya and the rest of the hybrid Figs litter, Gretel battled with URI symptoms like eye inflammation, weepiness, and nasal discharge during her stay with us, but those ailments never intruded on her sunny disposition. Though she would occasionally retreat under the bed when it was time for us to give her a syringe of Viralys or dab Terramycin in her eyes, she always let me reach under the bed and grab her… and then would start purring as I dragged her out!

Gretel loved to scratch the cardboard trackball disk and race around the playground. Along with Tenaya, Gretel was the first Fig to find a new home, where I'm sure she's already in the middle of all the action.
