Drifters Head Home,
Knockout Round

Sunday
6/29/2014

It has been a whirlwind of action at 50K over the past few days.

A couple who had been researching kitten ownership for a long time, and who had moved into a new apartment that was more pet friendly, had in their heads that they wanted a black kitten and a tortie kitten. Well, whaddya know – we happened to have both! They had read about the Drifters’ history on the blog, so they came ready to fall in love.

And it’s a good thing that they were patient, because Hannay and Hudson both hid under the futon for a lo-o-o-o-ong time. Caspian came right out and played and played. Finally, Hudson came out, and after an HOUR, Hannay came out to play as well. So, even though the Drifters didn’t show the best hospitality, the couple decided that Hudson and Hannay were the kittens for them. They came back on Thursday to pick them up. The kittens will be well loved!

Little Caspian wasn’t alone very long because we went and picked up a new trio that we are calling the Knockouts (we picked them up on the day that USA made it into the FIFA knockout round).

At first Caspian was very curious about the newcomers, and they pretty much ignored him. However, when they started dominating HIS toys, he got himself into quite a snit. It was pretty funny as he walked around growling as they chased his balls and mousies. You could tell that he wanted to join in the play, but couldn’t bring himself to do it.

As it turns out, he didn’t have any time to get over his snit before he went to his new home! A couple had a new 12-week-old tuxie named Giovanni who needed a playmate. They liked Caspian’s longish buff fur. When we did the home visit, their entire family room was filled with a big cat condo and all kinds of scratching posts and toys. Wow – Caspian hit the jackpot!

When they followed us back to 50K to meet Caspian it was love at first sight – Caspian was happy to get away from the ball hogs and his new parents, a retired military couple, were clearly smitten. They had previously gotten their cats from breeders, but decided to rescue this time. Yay! Caspian’s new name is Sante, which is an Italian name that means “holy.”

Meanwhile, Polly got spayed and has recovered nicely. She’s looking for a new foster. We’re hoping the guy who met her last week will follow up after he moves.

So, the Knockouts are “knockout” cute. We gave them USA soccer names, so the two gray twins are Dempsey and Beasley (Clint Dempsey and DeMarcus Beasley) and the gray and white is Jurgen (pronounced with a Y).

The twins are in constant motion with the toys (to Caspian’s dismay) while Jurgen is more of a lovey lap guy. We did get a shot of the twins looking about as cute as two kittens can look all wrapped up together.

Folks who have an active adult that needs a pal are coming to meet them tomorrow, so the Knockouts may not be a full team for that much longer either.

So, go USA on Tuesday!
